Listing & Compliance

The AccessCore One is an access-control control unit intended to be installed as part of a UL 294-compliant access-control system. Under UL 294, a control unit's listing carries Conditions of Acceptability — installation requirements that become part of that listing and must be followed in the field. This page states those conditions in installer terms.

:::caution Read this before wiring a compliant job

These are installation requirements, not optional suggestions, for any job that must meet UL 294 and the model codes it supports. An installer who deviates from the listed installation instructions assumes the resulting liability. Always follow the printed installation instructions shipped with the equipment, the local electrical and fire codes, and the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

The four installation conditions

1. Locked enclosure within the protected premises

Install the control unit inside a locked enclosure, located within the protected (secured) premises — not in a public or unsecured area.

  • Why: the locked enclosure and secured-area placement provide the physical tamper barrier expected for the panel.
  • What to do: mount the board in a lockable access-control enclosure with room for the board and field cabling, sited inside the secured space. See Power & Enclosure.

2. UL-294-listed battery-backup power supply

Power the control unit from a UL-294-listed access-control power supply with secondary (battery) power, rated for the installation's standby requirement.

  • Why: the standby-power evaluation — battery, charger, and AC-loss behavior — is carried by the listed supply. The control unit runs on the supply's backed-up 12 or 24 VDC output.
  • What to do: use a listed access-control power supply (12 or 24 VDC, with battery backup) sized for the controller plus any readers and locks carried on the backed-up rail. See Power & Enclosure. Confirm the acceptable supply with CloudAccess Key.

3. Lock outputs through a UL-listed fused relay/output board

Drive locking devices through a UL-listed fused relay/output board. The control unit's onboard relays then provide control only — they switch the listed board rather than the lock current directly.

  • Why: the fused relay board carries the output fusing / power-limiting and the lock-current endurance, keeping the high-current, inductive lock load off the control unit's onboard relays.
  • What to do: for a compliant install, route lock power through a UL-listed fused relay/output board driven by the AccessCore One relay output. The onboard COM / NO / NC relays can switch a lock directly on non-listed installs, but the fused relay/output board is the recommended, code-compliant method. See Wiring Locks.

4. Independent egress power-interrupt (push-to-exit + fire release)

The manual request-to-exit (push-to-exit) device and the fire-alarm release must interrupt power to the locking device at the power supply / relay board, independently of the control-unit electronics.

  • Why (code): IBC §1010.2.11 requires direct interruption of power to the lock, independent of the access-control electronics; NFPA 101 §7.2.1.6 and the NFPA 72 fire-alarm interface apply.
  • What to do: wire the push-to-exit device and the fire alarm panel's listed dry-contact release output so they drop lock power in hardware at the supply / relay board. The controller's fire input and REX input are additive to this hardware path — never a substitute for it.

Fail-safe vs. fail-secure is the installer's determination

Whether a given opening is fail-safe (releases on power loss) or fail-secure is a wiring determination made per NFPA 101 / IBC and the local AHJ — it is not a control-unit setting. Wire each opening's lock accordingly. See Wiring Locks.

Performance levels & markings

UL 294 defines performance levels for Destructive Attack, Line Security, Endurance, and Standby Power. The declared levels for a given product, and the required product / installation-instruction markings, must be confirmed with CloudAccess Key — do not assume a level.

Compliant-installation checklist

  • Control unit mounted in a locked enclosure within the protected premises (Condition 1).
  • Powered from a UL-294-listed battery-backup supply of adequate standby rating (Condition 2).
  • Lock outputs driven through a UL-listed fused relay/output board (Condition 3).
  • Push-to-exit and fire-alarm release interrupt lock power in hardware at the supply / relay board, independent of the control unit (Condition 4).
  • Fire-alarm release input connected to the building fire alarm panel's listed dry-contact output. See Fire Alarm Integration.
  • Per-opening fail-safe vs. fail-secure lock wiring per NFPA 101 / IBC and the AHJ. See Wiring Locks.
  • Declared performance levels confirmed as suitable for the application.
